Making high precision positioning accessible everywhere

09.08.2022Jingling Tu

Fixposition offers an optimized, lightweight positioning system which can be used through its deep sensor fusion technology in various applications including delivery robots, lawn mowers, agriculture, drones, and autonomous driving.

The Zurich-based company was founded in 2017 and develops an accessible, high-precision positioning sensor that enables autonomous navigation systems to operate in a multitude of challenging environments. These can be urban canyons, underpasses, under tree canopies or anywhere else where traditional GNSS positioning systems fail. Leading companies in several autonomous vehicle-related industries are testing or have tested the evaluation kit and are satisfied with the results.

Serpentine Ventures invests in the second tranche of the seed extension round of Fixposition together with Silicon Valley VC Amino Capital and Fixposition’s distributor Max Electron (Hong Kong) due to the following reasons:

There is an increasing demand for autonomous vehicles driven by labor shortage, food security, favorable governmental policies, and technology advancements. The global market for autonomous vehicles is forecasted to reach a value of around USD 2,200 bn by 2030. We believe that Fixposition has the potential to be a standard and fundamental solution for autonomous vehicles.

Conventional positioning solutions based on technologies like GPS cannot achieve centimeter accuracy reliable enough to operate in all environments. When it comes to autonomous delivery, for example, these requisites are extremely important.

Fixposition has managed to solve these problems by combining GNSS, IMU and computer vision. The real-time high precision positioning solution comes at an attractive price point while outperforming high-end products which can easily cost more than USD 20’000.

The company has already successfully launched its Vision RTK 2 sensor product. The device received positive feedback in the market and secured a strong sales pipeline. More contracts should be sealed in late 2022 and early 2023.
