Online groceries without single-use packaging – that is what Lyfa has to offer. Customers can order online and return the reusable packaging once they have consumed the product. The company was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in Basel.
Packaging-free stores in Switzerland have already shown proof of concept, but there are currently no e-commerce competitors in Switzerland delivering zero-waste products. Lyfa’s business model is designed to reduce friction by providing a time-saving solution with hassle-free delivery to its customers. This offering is a perfect fit for the city and rural customers who aim to have a positive impact on the environment: Switzerland is expected to be the ideal ecosystem for this startup. Delivery is currently available throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein, although Lyfa will expand to other European countries in 2024.
The team has substantial experience in packaging engineering, product development, and last-mile delivery to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, the company has partnered with the University of Applied Sciences Basel as part of the circular economy transition incubator and secured funding from Innosuisse.
Lyfa has been able to increase weekly revenue by almost six times within one year. They have also proven a large basket size and high retention rate with their customers. Securing country-wide coverage and proving that their reverse logistics work allows them now to focus on customer acquisition.
We continue to believe in Lyfa’s vision and team. Zero-waste will emerge to become one of the key sustainability topics. Lyfa remains a first mover in the zero-waste delivery landscape in Switzerland and therefore has the chance to establish itself as the major player. We are convinced that their solution solves the key pain points of conventional zero-waste: carrying heavy groceries in glass bottles. They essentially merge sustainability with the hot delivery market, which is why we have done a follow-on investment with them recently.
